Honor a Veteran A Month Program
City Council implemented a new program for 2015, “Honor a Veteran a Month” program. For each month of 2015 a Veteran will be selected and recognized at a City Council meeting. A biography and photo of the selected Veteran will be on display throughout the month at City Hall for residents to view. We are proud to highlight such important members of our community who have sacrificed so much for our country. For more information, please visit our website at www.ci.stanton.ca.us

The Nomination Process
The community is encouraged to submit nominations to honor a Veteran that has lived in Stanton. The guidelines below can assist you while applying, Please include:
• A brief history of the nominee’s service. Include any locations, dates and other relevant information.
• Any campaigns, battles or other actions he or she participated in.
• Any medals, awards and recognition the nominee received as well as any civilian service.
• Contact information for the nominee and/or family member.

|| John Doogan
|| John Doogan joined the United States Coast Guard on November 1st, 1966.
|| Ed Royce, Sr.
|| Ed Royce, Sr. is a Veteran of WWII and served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946.
|| Jim Nelson
|| Jim Nelson entered active duty with the U.S. Navy in January 1954.
|| Al Ethans
||Al Ethans served our great country for 7 years, 11 months and 20 days
|| Robert Green
||Mr. Green enlisted on July 8, 1956 with the California Army National Guard
|| Frank Portillo
||Mr. Portillo was 17 years of age, and enlisted prior to being drafted
||Walter L. Hughes
||Mr. Hughes joined the 7th Calvary Regiment in September, 1946.
|| Charles Cargo
||After graduating from Magnolia High School, he enlisted in the Army and was sent off to fight in the Vietnam War.
|| Annette Cox
||Ms. Cox’s dream came true as she enlisted into the United States Army.
|| Joshua Costa
||In 2005, Mr. Costa was sent oversees to fight the war in the West Al-Rasheed District of Baghdad, Iraq also known as Operation Iraqi Enduring Freedom.
|| C. Ivan Ashbaugh
||Ivan Ashbaugh attended the University of Texas, Austin, on a Navy ROTC Scholarship. Upon graduation in 1960 with a BS in Aerospace Engineering, he was commissioned Ensign.
|| Ken Ash
||Mr. Ash graduated from Lindenhurst High School, Long Island, New York on Saturday, June 21, 1963 and was in Navy boot camp at Great lakes, Illinois 1 week later on June 28, 1963.
||Johnny L. Grubbs
||Mr. Grubb’s was born February 29, 1940 in Waurika Oklahoma. He moved to Texas when he was twelve years old and joined the Navy in 1957, at the young age of seventeen.
