Free Tax Counseling
Tax Counseling for the Elderly (T. C. E.) provides free tax assistance to older individuals in the community. Trained volunteers will assist patrons 60 years and older in preparing their income tax returns. The following are covered: Wages, Interest, Dividends, Stock Sales, Sale of house, Pensions, IRAs, Annuities, and Social Security Calculations. They do not file Rentals, Business/Self Employment, Mutual Funds, Foreign Investments, Partnerships or Agricultural. Appointments: Can be scheduled beginning January of each year. Please bring the following items: last year’s tax return, 1099 and/or W2 forms.
Appointments fill-up fast, if you cancel an appointment rescheduling may not be available. Thursdays, February – April, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Food Distribution
The Friendly Center is distributing 4,000 - 8,000 pounds of food once a month with its Mobile Food Pantry program. Participants are only required to bring their own bags to carry the food received. Food is distributed rain or shine.
This is an ongoing program that occurs every third Wednesday of the month at 9 a.m. in the Stanton Community Services Center, located at 11822 Santa Paula St. For additional information, please call 714-379-0129.
O.C.T.A. Access Transportation
Transportation provided within Orange County for medical appointments, shopping or social visits ($3.60 each way per zone). For information and to register for this ride program call the Orange County Transit Authority (O.C.T.A.) at (714) 636-7433. Applications can also be obtained from the Stanton Parks & Recreation Services, located at 7800 Katella Avenue.
Information & Referrals
Assistance with referral to a variety of senior services including adult day care, counseling, home health care, housing, home delivered meals, case management, respite, employment, legal assistance, support groups mediation service, and other community services available through the Parks & Recreation Department at (714) 379- 9222 ext. 276.
Legal Services
The Senior Citizens Legal services are available to seniors regardless of income. The contact number is (714) 511- 5200, or (800) 834-5001.
Stantonites Senior Club
Stanton Parks & Recreation Services invites individuals 50 years of age and older to attend and participate in: The Stantonites, a local senior organization that meets every Thursday in the Stanton Community/Civic Center from 7 a.m. - 12 p.m. Members enjoy potlucks, holiday celebrations, birthday parties, trips, cards, bingo and the opportunity to meet new people. Membership is $5.00 a year.
