Senior Services

The City of Stanton is proud to offer a variety of activities and services to seniors. Seniors can enjoy bingo, karaoke, fitness classes, excursions, special luncheons and more at a minimum to no cost. Most activities occur on a weekly basis so there's always something going on!

The special resources section of this page offers additional information on organizations the City has partnered with to offer legal, transportation and nutrition assistance to seniors.

Senior Transportation

Need a ride and are 60 years and older? The City of Stanton offers an in-house transportation program for all Stanton residents.  If you live in the City of Stanton and are looking for a ride to the Stanton Senior Center for free fitness classes, a low-cost nutritious lunch, or a visit to the farmers market we can help!

Free Health Screenings

Prospect Medical will be providing free Blood Pressure Screenings on the third Thursday of each month from 9-10:30 a.m. in the Stanton Community/ Civic Center, located at 7800 Katella Ave.

Senior Weekly Activities

Let's Do Lunch At The Center
Delicious meals are served four days a week from 11:15 a.m.-11:45 p.m., at the Stanton Community/Civic Center, 7800 Katella Ave. Three-day advance reservations are required. Along with meals, our dining room is always full of fun, special parties, holiday celebrations and many warm friendly people. A suggested donation of  $3.00 for seniors and $5.00 for 59 or younger is accepted. For reservations please call (714) 890-4276.

Karaoke - Mondays
On the 2nd and 4th Monday,  a local volunteer hosts Karaoke and it is available from 10:30-11:30 a.m., at the Stanton Community/ Civic Center, 7800 Katella Ave. All seniors are welcome to come and meet new people, sing and enjoy the fun.

Piano Music - Tuesdays
Every Tuesday a local volunteer plays the piano from 10- 11 a.m., at the Stanton Community/Civic Center, 7800 Katella Ave. All seniors are welcome to come and meet new people, sing along and enjoy the fun.

Bingo - Wednesdays
Every Wednesday BINGO is played from 10-11 a.m., at the Stanton Community/Civic Center, 7800 Katella Ave. All seniors are welcome to come and meet new people and enjoy the fun.

Fitness Classes

Exercise with Mary Jo
Now sponsored by the Stanton Community Foundation and offered at NO COST to all seniors! This exercise class conducts activities that are designed to sustain and improve joint mobility, tone muscles and improve posture. This exercise program is conducted with participants sitting and standing and allows people to have fun while exercising in a group setting.

Age: 60 years & older
Mondays, 1-2:15 p.m. On-going class  

Help Yourself to Health Class
This exercise class will cover various health related topics of interest and safe, beneficial exercises. Each class will incorporate information, discussion and exercises. The class will consist of an introduction, warm-up to increase circulation, static stretches to minimize muscle strain/pain, strength training for specific muscles, a cool down and then conclude with balance exercises.

Location: Stanton Community/Civic Center, 7800 Katella Ave.
Age: 60 years & older  
Tuesdays, 9:30-11:30 a.m. On-going class: This class will focus on weight training, balance and cardio to promote general health and fitness.
Wednesdays, 9:30-11:30 a.m. On-going class: This class will focus on light cardio, working with balance, mobility and developing reflexes with brain fitness.

Senior Resources

Free Tax Counseling
Tax Counseling for the Elderly (T. C. E.) provides free tax assistance to older individuals in the community. Trained volunteers will assist patrons 60 years and older in preparing their income tax returns. The following are covered: Wages, Interest, Dividends, Stock Sales, Sale of house, Pensions, IRAs, Annuities, and Social Security Calculations. They do not file Rentals, Business/Self Employment, Mutual Funds, Foreign Investments, Partnerships or Agricultural. Appointments: Can be scheduled beginning January, 2017. What to Bring: Please bring last year’s tax return, year 2016, 1099 & W2 forms

Appointments fill-up fast, if you cancel an appointment rescheduling may not be available. Thursdays, February – April, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Food Distribution
The Friendly Center is distributing 4,000 - 8,000 pounds of food once a month with its Mobile Food Pantry program. Participants are only required to bring their own bags to carry the food received. Food is distributed rain or shine.
This is an ongoing program that occurs every third Wednesday of the month at 9 a.m. in the Stanton Community Services Center, located at 11822 Santa Paula St. For additional information, please call 714-379-0129.

O.C.T.A. Access Transportation
Transportation provided within Orange County for medical appointments, shopping or social visits ($3.60 each way per zone). For information and to register for this ride program call the Orange County Transit Authority (O.C.T.A.) at (714) 636-7433. Applications can also be obtained from the Stanton Parks & Recreation Services, located at 7800 Katella Avenue.

Information & Referrals
Assistance with referral to a variety of senior services including adult day care, counseling, home health care, housing, home delivered meals, case management, respite, employment, legal assistance, support groups mediation service, and other community services available through the Parks & Recreation Department at (714) 379- 9222 ext. 276.

Legal Services
The Senior Citizens Legal services are available to seniors regardless of income. The contact number is (714) 511- 5200, or (800) 834-5001.

Stantonites Senior Club
Stanton Parks & Recreation Services invites individuals 50 years of age and older to attend and participate in: The Stantonites, a local senior organization that meets every Thursday in the Stanton Community/Civic Center from 7 a.m. - 12 p.m. Members enjoy potlucks, holiday celebrations, birthday parties, trips, cards, bingo and the opportunity to meet new people. Membership is $5.00 a year.

The next excursion will be to The Hammer Museum on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

 Pre-registration is required, for additional information, call (714) 890-4276. All excursions are $10. Please note that many of the excursions require walking. All excursions will meet at the Stanton Community/ Civic Center, 7800 Katella Avenue.

The Stanton Community /Civic Center gets spooky for the annual Senior Spooky Luncheon on Tuesday, October 17, 2017. All senior adults are invited to spend a day dressing in your favorite costume. Special entertainment, bingo, food and fun, all with a spooky theme.
