City of Stanton Shuts Down Illegal Marijuana Dispensary

Stanton, Calif. – April 20, 2017 –– The City of Stanton shut down an illegal marijuana dispensary today, sending a clear message of zero tolerance for illegal businesses in the City. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department served a lockout warrant for an illegal marijuana dispensary on the 8800 block of Katella Ave. in Stanton, CA. on the morning of April 20th.

The City passed regulations banning marijuana dispensaries in 2008, and is focused on enforcing its adopted regulations. The closure of the illegal dispensary is the City enforcing its rules, codes and regulations.

“Any business in operation that does not have a business license and fails to comply with City regulations, building codes or pay City, State and Federal taxes is an illegal business, regardless of the product provided or the services sold. Marijuana dispensaries are not above the laws that the rest of the businesses in Stanton must abide by and this type of business practice will not be tolerated,” said Mayor of Stanton, Carol Warren.

“The City of Stanton practices a zero tolerance policy for business types that are prohibited. The actions taken this morning demonstrate the City’s commitment to protect the health and safety of our residents by ensuring these prohibited businesses deemed to be a risk to our community are closed,” stated City Manager Jim Box.

Although marijuana was recently legalized in the state of California, the regulatory process to open a marijuana dispensary in the City of Stanton has yet to be finalized. Until a set of clear rules and regulations is established by the City, recreational marijuana shops will remain illegal and subject to closure.
